In 1984, our founder, Judy Heltzel, graduated from the Atkinson Graduate School of Management at Willamette University. Formerly a Social Worker, Judy hoped to use her newly-learned financial skills in combination with her people skills to develop a financial planning practice.
Not finding a financial planning firm as she had envisioned, she accepted the offer of a desk from a local insurance firm interested in expanding its offerings to include investment products.
On the day after Labor Day in 1984, she used this opportunity to begin developing her financial planning practice. She also began preparing for her Certified Financial Planner™ certification, which she completed in 1988.
It was after completing her CFP® designation that she severed ties with the insurance company and developed her independent* financial planning and investment management practice, emphasizing personalized attention as well as excellent professional advice. She named this venture Capital Financial Planners.
After thirty years of service to clients, Judy retired in 2014. Being a planner both by nature and by profession, retirement and the transition of the business was planned many years in advance. Barry Nelson joined the firm in 2001, earned his CFP® designation in 2006, and became a partner in 2007 knowing that he would be Judy’s eventual successor. Certified Trust and Financial Advisor (CTFA®) and former trust officer, Chad Campbell, joined the firm in 2013. Danae Johnson has provided excellent service to our clients since 2008 as our Operations and Client Services Manager.
